National Ewaste Day 2020

October 14, 2020 is International E-Waste Day and at ProTek Recycling we are celebrating! The day of recognition was first introduced in 2018 by not-for-profit association, WEEE Forum. Over the years, organizations in the WEEE Forum have developed greater know-how on the technical aspects of the collection, logistics, and processing of electronic waste or e-waste. The celebration and recognition of International E-Waste Day is used to raise awareness of e-waste recycling and encourage consumers to recycle their own e-waste properly and responsibly.

At ProTek Recycling, we understand the potential environmental effects that improper recycling could have on the environment and your bottom line. Take for instance the use of rare earth elements (REEs) which are used in a variety of today’s electronic devices. As it stands, the use of these rare earth metals like Cerium, Neodymium, Dysprosium, Terbium, Holmium, Lanthanum, Scandium, and Yttrium in new technologies is becoming more common and so the demand for these metals will increase. Although rare earth metals are common in existence, they are extremely hard to collect in abundance. Especially in the amounts needed for the current demand. Because of this, REEs are expensive to produce and affect how much you pay for that new must-have electronic device.

As the demand increases for these REEs, we need to be doing our part to reuse the resources we already have accumulated. Reusing and recylcing parts from electronic devices that have reached the end of their useful life has a positive impact on the strain and high costs of sourcing new materials.

At ProTek Recycling we know the importance of responsible electronic recycling and how it can dramatically reduce the rare earth metals and non-degradable trash ending up in landfills. We want to offer a more sustainable solution to our customers and environment. So, on October 14, 2020 please join us in spreading the word about responsible e-waste disposal on International E-Waste Day.
