FAQS: Frequently Asked Questions
Is ProTek Recycling insured?
ProTek is fully insured and can provide our certificate of insurance for any building or organization who requests it. Please allow 2 business days for our insurers to process the request.
Does the equipment have to be working to be recycled?
No; we can recycle electronics that are working, non-working, and even loose components.
How can you offer some pickups for free and why is there is a minimum pickup size?
We focus on the reuse of electronics; even if equipment is non-functional, oftentimes there are still components that can be used. And what can’t be used is separated into its base metals and used as raw material in manufacturing. As long as a pickup is over a sufficient quantity we can and will offer the pickup and recycling free-of-charge.
What electronics count towards the pickup minimum?
Desktop computers, laptops, and servers are the principle equipment that count towards the minimum. We can also recycle printers, monitors, telephones, instrumentation, battery backups, and accessories but our main focus is on the first three types.
What is the pickup minimum?
The pickup minimum depends on where the pickup is. Commercial businesses should call or submit a request, but generally we need between 10 and 25 desktops, laptops or servers to provide a pickup at no charge. We do not offer pickups for the residential community.
Is there a maximum quantity?
Absolutely not; in the past we’ve helped clients with hundreds of desktops, enterprise level battery backup systems, and building-wide PBX systems with 2000 desk phones. We’re happy to work with you to develop a custom solution for the most challenging recycling needs.
What services do you charge for?
Please contact us to get a quote for data destruction shredding services, to recycle CRT Monitors and TVs and if you do not meet the minimum pickup quantity.
I am a member of the residential community. What am I supposed to do?
Individuals can arrange to recycle electronics at our drop-off facility in Watervliet, NY or order a ProTek eBox. Check out our eBox.
Are there any electronics that you can’t take?
We cannot collect fluorescent bulbs or PCB containing electrical equipment. The hazardous materials within require specialized handling which we are not able to offer at this time.
I’m concerned about my data. What should I do?
Contract ProTek Recycling to shred your data. Visit our page HERE to learn more about what options are available and what devices we can destroy. Our serialized data destruction service provides the documentation of the process, serialized number of the data containing devices (hard drive), the serialized number of the equipment it was in (desktop, laptop, etc.), its destruction method, and when it was destroyed. Everything you need to document and certify its destruction.
