The HP-85A was designed by Hewlett Packard with the professional marketplace in mind. Interestingly, many of the traditional peripherals (CRT display, printer, magnetic tape drive) were incorporated in the case itself. While not unique, this did represent a serious cost-savings so these were very popular with small businesses and offices that would be reluctant to buy a large computing system with multiple expensive peripherals. However they did also have expansion slots in the back so the system could still be connected to optional pieces like XY plotters, floppy drives, or scientific instrumentation. The relative low-cost coupled with flexible design made this particular computer a best-seller and they were a fixture of the business world for many years.
